IRAN RULE OF LAW The project aims to increase the capacity of lawyers around the country to work effectively on human rights cases. The project provides opportunities for Iranian lawyers to learn from U.N. mechanisms and from international organizations in Geneva. The training programme consists of the following 4 components: Learning about the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process and the voluntary human rights pledges and commitments States adopt through this review. There is a special focus on how civil society actors can helpfully cooperate in this process. Becoming aware of the UN human rights mechanisms, both Charter-based and Treaty-based mechanisms, their aims and procedures. The focus will be on the relevance of the work of these bodies for those working at the national level. Focusing on the work of the Special Procedures, their functions and objectives. There is a special focus on how civil society actors can assist them in their work. Interaction with some Geneva-based NGOs and how they collaborate with the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Charter-based and Treaty-based mechanisms outlined above. |
